Sunil Gavaskar is a former Indian cricketer and one of the greatest opening batsmen in the history of the sport. He was born on July 10, 1949, in Mumbai, India. Gavaskar is known for his technical brilliance and ability to score runs consistently against formidable bowling attacks.

He made his Test debut for India in 1971 and went on to achieve several records during his illustrious career. Gavaskar was the first player to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket and held the record for the most number of centuries in Test matches until it was surpassed by Sachin Tendulkar. He was also known for his exceptional performance in the 1971 series against the West Indies, where he scored 774 runs in four matches.

Gavaskar played for India for 16 years and was a key contributor to the team’s success during that period. He was part of the Indian team that won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. After retiring from cricket, Gavaskar became a well-respected commentator and cricket analyst.
